Daily dose / Marukakko and Scye

Ah, I'm not good at year-end blog posts...

I'll proceed as usual, without changing anything.

Here we go.

Who invented parentheses?

Just adding "( )" at the beginning and end of a sentence.

(Ah, I'm not good at year-end blog posts...)

It's just a symbol, but thanks to it, my assertion feels softened.

I kind of like the concept of "( )"...

And then, it suddenly occurred to me...

Scye is a brand that suits "( )".

The sheer force of linking it to the title, even if it's a stretch...

Please bear with me for a little longer today.

Scye is a Japanese brand helmed by designer Hideyo Hidaka and pattern cutter Hideaki Miyahara.

Do any of you own Scye items?

At SEEK&FIND, it's a brand we've carried every season since our opening, so we have a long relationship with them.

My first Scye item was a P-coat I bought when I was working at the STEPS Kichijoji store.

That must have been almost 10 years ago.

And this autumn/winter, I became even more engrossed in Scye than usual.

Perhaps it's because I've had more opportunities to turn the products inside out and observe them carefully?

The more I look at them, the more I wear them, the more intriguing the clothes become.

What stood out to me in a past interview with pattern cutter Miyahara-san was his statement about prioritizing "rational garment making."

This means not incorporating decorative design lines,

but instead using "functional lines" that serve a clear purpose.

I see, I see.

No wonder the clothes offer such a wide range of motion and are so comfortable.

If you turn Scye garments inside out, they are full of carefully placed darts and intricate stitching.

And it's all done so naturally that you might overlook it unless you look closely.

Scye's subtle concept is

"Nobody knows."

It feels like the meaningful functional lines are Scye's lifeline, but I don't grasp all of them.

At exhibitions, they explain the parts that are easy for someone like me to understand, but those are surely just a fraction of their many commitments.

If I ask a question, I get an answer in a second, but Miyahara-san doesn't offer detailed specifications on his own.

Perhaps it's because there would be no end to it.

Perhaps he leaves us the joy of suddenly noticing things as we use the clothes.

Perhaps sewing specifications aren't something to show off in the first place.

Just a gentle smile, and a "Please try it on."

He seems to be enjoying himself, wondering what our reaction will be.

Stories and details tend to come first, but Scye's products are quietly passionate.

Many thoughts and meanings are packed within the ( ),

but they are just inside the ( ).

It feels comfortable somehow.

It's a garment that somehow stays in your possession for a long time.

We don't need to know.

We can imagine freely.

I want to leave the vague answers to the ( ) and enjoy fashion however I please.

After all, it's about clothes, a world of hobbies, not an exam.

That's all for today.

Have a nice weekend~!!!
